Collaborates with physicians to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries, evaluates athlete's readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training, Physiology, or other applicable discipline.

2. Must be Nationally Certified by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers.

3. In the state of West Virginia, Athletic Trainers must be licensed by the WV Board of Physical Therapy.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Two (2) years of experience in Athletic Training.

1. Two years of experience in Athletic Training in high-impact sports.

1. Analyze patient data to determine patient needs or treatment goals. Evaluate patient outcomes to determine effectiveness of treatments.

2. Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.

3. Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches or physicians.

4. Care for athletic injuries, using physical therapy equipment, techniques, or medication.

5. Evaluate athlete's functioning, capabilities, health or readiness to play. Provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.

6. Instruct coaches, athletes, medical personnel, or other stakeholders in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.

7. Apply protective or injury preventive devices, such as tape, bandages, or braces, to body parts, such as ankles, fingers, or wrists.

8. Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.

9. Travel with athletic teams to be available at sporting events.

10. Plan or implement comprehensive athletic injury or illness prevention programs.

11. Advise athletes, coaches, or trainers on exercise regimens, nutrition, or equipment

12. Confer with coaches to select protective equipment.

13. Develop training programs or routines designed to improve athletic performance.

14. Accompany injured athletes to hospitals.

15. Lead stretching exercises for team members prior to games or practices.

16. Conduct research or provide instruction on subject matter related to athletic training or sports medicine.

17. Recommend special diets to improve athletes' health, increase their stamina, or alter their weight.

18. Perform general administrative tasks, such as keeping records or writing reports.

19. Clean and sanitize athletic training rooms.

20. Inspect playing fields as applicable to locate any items that could injure players.

21. File athlete insurance claims and communicate with insurance providers.

22. Teach sports medicine courses to athletic training students.

23. May participate in training camps.
