The LPN Extern delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), the LPN Extern assists the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the LPN Extern's skills/training and the needs of the department, and consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited LPN program.
3. Certification in Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association; must not expire during LPN Externship.
EXPERIENCE
1. Completion of three (3) months in an accredited LPN program and completion of skills self-assessment

1. Provides excellent customer service to patients, visitors, families, and co-workers and supports the hospital mission and vision.
2. Possesses knowledge regarding most encountered patient conditions and understands the physiologic basis for the nursing care delivered.
3. Assists the RN in the application of the nursing process to assigned patients.
4. Provides or assists patients with activities of daily living.
5. Communicates abnormal observations or findings to the appropriate member of the health care team.
6. Documents the delivery of quality care in the patient's medical record.
7. Reinforces established patient/family education.
8. Maintains a working knowledge of patient safety and incorporates this into the work setting.
9. Maintains customer relations regarding inquiries of a routine nature from patients, families, visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff members.
10. Effectively follows all hospital policies and procedures.
11. Meets expectation regarding regular attendance and punctuality when scheduled to work.
12. Performs all other duties as assigned.

1. Capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.
2. Able to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull heavy load
