MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor's degree in business, marketing and/healthcare administration OR High School Diploma or Equivalent AND Four (4) years' experience in sales or marketing.

2. Valid Driver's license.

1. Master's degree in business, marketing, and/or healthcare administration is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Ten (10) years' experience in sales or marketing position, preferably in the healthcare industry.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned. Liaison is responsible for the outreach and promotion of the services provided by WVU Medicine, contend with referral issues, and maintaining high visibility within the leadership of the clinical enterprise.

1. Coordinates outreach based on the marketing calendar.  This outreach is executed by the liaison on behalf of the specialty physicians, services, facilities, and centers that comprise the Clinical Enterprise at WVU Medicine.  POL both executes and manages recurring site visits to the referral base for the purpose of facilitating relationships between referring physicians (and their staff) and the specialty services at the clinical enterprise. Facilitates visits by WVU Medicine providers to referring specialists as appropriate.

Manages and executes outreach in the assigned territory. Territory expansion is contingent upon realistic requests, supported by realistic opportunities, from those within the Clinical Enterprise.

3. Offers updates to the referral base about programs, services, providers, and facilities within the Clinical Enterprise.

4. Facilitates referrals through the development of relationships between primary care providers and specialists.

5. Provides answers to questions or concerns about services and patient referrals.

6. Permits the development, maintenance, and expansion of relationships with referring provider office staff with the intent to enhance utilization of services and customer satisfaction.

7. Maintains accurate call logs, and subsequent details, resulting from site visits.

8. Provides formal and informal updates to hospital and practice plan leadership of referral base issues.

9. Strives to develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the referral base; including issues affecting the community.

10. Provides leadership and support of outreach and marketing efforts as assigned.

11. Suggests strategies and implements programs designed to benefit patient referrals.

12. Identifies barriers which affect referrals from the base; actively coordinate communication of those issues to Departmental Chairs, Administrators (President/CEO, HSC Dean, CMO), and Directors or the appropriate chain of command.

13. Recommends strategies designed to increase referrals to the Clinical Enterprise.

14. Coordinates and facilitates high profile meetings/responses on behalf of senior leadership.

15. Develops and nurtures relationships with internal faculty, and subsequent ancillary staff, organizational and clinical leadership of WVU Medicine.  This will be accomplished through establishment of recurring meetings and periodic contact.

16. Represents the Clinical Enterprise of WVU Medicine at external meetings as assigned.

17. Maintains a high profile with Departmental Chairs, Administrators, and Directors for the purpose of learning about new services to be promoted, which support the Marketing Calendar.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Position requires extended periods of driving an automobile in short to medium distances, extensive standing and walking while calling upon referring physician offices and hospitals, as well as sitting completing extensive paperwork/documentation which results from the aforementioned visits to communities. Some physical effort required in carrying and lifting of marketing materials and referral directories.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. The individual is required to complete extensive travel by automobile throughout West Virginia, and surrounding referral base (both rural and suburban) year round.  Travel associated with the position can exceed 30,000 miles per year.  Such travel exposes the individual to significant potential for motor vehicle problems, including accidents, encountered via extensive travel.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Exceptional communications skills: Both verbal and written skills are needed to be effective in presenting the message and getting feedback—from one-to-one conversations to group presentations.          

2. Highly organized and detail-oriented: Ability to utilize or adopt a customer relationship portal to help track and analyze voluminous data points, follow-up activities and events.

3. Motivation, a self-starter: Much of the work is independent of a traditional office environment. Motivated individuals challenge themselves to understand what's expected, why it's important, and to get the job done, largely on their own.

4. Knowledgeable of all scheduling/authorization processes.

5. Requires a high level of attention to detail and fact reporting.  Highly polished foresight is crucial to achieve success in the position due to the amount of pressures resulting from internal faculty/administration's interest in capturing the market share of the referral base. 

6. Must have the ability to review and analyze referral reports in order to plan and effectively execute, responsive outreach.  It is imperative that the position manages the analyses regarding provider satisfaction via verbal and written communications.
